A Tsunami of Conviction

Last night, as if in a dream, my spirit went walking along the shoreline. I looked out at the wide expanse of the ocean, and it seemed I could see the waters recede. The rocky depths were exposed. I heard a voice praying, and realized it was my own.

“Father, in Jesus’ name, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, send a tsunami of conviction rushing over this nation and cause us to see that the rebellion seething among us is contrived by spiritual forces. Open our eyes to see that it is the enemy who is turning us against each other. Help us to understand that it is not a matter of one camp or party rising against another, but we are raising our fists and slinging our curses into Your holy face. It is against You that we are raging. Let that knowledge come surging over us, moving every obstacle with its power.”

Then it seemed to me that the ocean stood upright, like a solid wall, and came rushing toward the shore. It buried us in a moment, pushing away the deceit and manipulation of the enemy, and all our hearts were broken by the realization of our ingratitude and pettiness. I wept and fell to my knees in the power of the wave that made me see my own failures and foolishness clearly. All around me, others wept and knelt in deep sorrow. The air was filled with a healing wail of repentance, and it was met with a sigh of compassion from our Creator.

Over and over, that wave receded and swept in. Over and over, we saw ourselves and each other more clearly, and all our anger and fear melted into compassion and trust. We were healed. Our hearts were softened, and we embraced each other, forgiving as we were forgiven, offering one another the kiss of peace. Then we all turned toward the ocean, seeing in it the immensity of God’s grace acting on our fallen natures, restoring us to obedience and peace.

And then my eyes saw only the natural shoreline. The waves washed gently toward me and touched my feet softly. I realized that no tsunami of conviction had rolled in, and I was deeply troubled.

“Lord,” I cried, “do in reality what You have done before the eyes of my spirit!” Raise up a host of intercessors and prayer warriors to usher in that healing wave. Send us another Great Awakening! Convict us of sin and break our hearts in repentance, so that we humble ourselves before wrath overtakes us. In Jesus’ name I pray.”

Who will join me in this prayer? Who will share this prayer with other faithful prayer warriors? Who will help me pray this wave of conviction ashore? I am waiting. I am listening for an amen…

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
